I Cannot Believe What They Did

It is incredibly tragic to see people with great talent waste their gift, or others with wonderful promise, simply fade into mediocrity.

The Israelites were God’s chosen people, given a beautiful land with homes, wealth, and provisions they never built, earned, or planted. God asked one thing in return; serve Him and not other man-made gods. It was simple. Honor God. Honor His Word. Worship as He commanded. Nothing hard about that! But the Israelites disobeyed God and wasted their blessings. The most common phrase throughout ancient Israel’s history was, “The Israelites did what was evil in the Lord’s sight; they forgot the Lord their God and worshiped false gods.”

How could God’s chosen people do what was evil? The Bible gives us the answer.

We read in 2 Kings 22:8,

I have found the Book of the Law in the Lord’s Temple!”

Incredible that during a renovation of the Temple someone “finds”God’s Word. If they were reading God’s Word, His Word would not have been lost! Mistake number 1: the Israelites were not reading God’s Word.

The Israelites did what was evil because they stopped reading what was excellent!

“I have treasured Your Word in my heart so that I may not sin against You.” Psalm 119:11 (CSB)

Israel stopped treasuring God’s Word and they started sinning!

Are you treasuring God’s Word in your heart? You treasure God’s Word by reading it daily and doing what God says! You cannot do what God says unless you listen to what He has said. You cannot do what is excellent if you are absent from His Word! Treasure the time you spend reading God’s love letter to you, the Bible! Please do not waste your gift, fall or fade into mediocrity.

Tassie and I love you and we are praying for you!
