When I was growing up there was a favorite cave that my friends and I would explore. It was a “hidden” cave where the entrance was concealed behind a very large boulder. One had to know where the cave was located in order to find the entrance. This became our secret hiding place!

In the Bible King David was running from King Saul and David found a hiding place in the Cave of Adullam (1 Samuel 22). That became David’s secret hiding place!

Psalm 57 begins:

“When he (David) fled before Saul into the cave. Be gracious to me, God, be gracious to me, for I take refuge in You. I will seek refuge in the shadow of Your wings until danger passes. 2I call to God Most High, to God who fulfills His purpose for me. 3He reaches down from heaven and saves me, challenging the one who tramples me. Selah God sends His faithful love and truth.”

With the scare of COVID-19, I am tempted to seek comfort by returning to my secret hiding cave. But then I am reminded by God’s Holy Spirit, my hiding place is in God’s protection until the danger passes! We do not need a cave. We have God! Christians are cautious but not fearful!
